ENROLMENT

PRE-SCHOOLERS AND NEW ENTRANTS : TEINA

Pre-schoolers close to enrolment may attend school with their parents/caregivers for either morning or afternoon sessions.

Morning sessions are more valuable for pre-schooler's as main learning areas are taken before lunch. Parents are welcome to stay and observe as parent helpers in the morning.

Arrangements should be made with the Junior/Teina Teacher prior to attendance.

Enrolment forms are available from the school office when your child is ready to start school. The child’s birth certificate and Plunket book is required for verification.

JUNIOR: TEINA DEPARTMENT

A stationery list will be given with the year’s requirements on it. A free 'Paeroa Lions Club' stationery pack and home reader bag will be given to each new entrant child. The home reader bag is supplied so that readers and library books are kept in good condition when moving between home and school. New Entrants attend school, between 8.45a.m. and 2.45p.m.

On most nights (not Fridays) your child will take home a book that they have read at school that day. To reinforce your child’s early reading skills, parents you need to read to and with your child, making reading exciting. At this stage most children will be using only their memory of the text to read.

Reinforcing the movement of their pointer finger from left to right is an important first step to reading.

  • Left page before right page

  • Pointing to each separate word

  • Using the pictures to help get clues about what the words say

  • Looking at the first letter of the word and saying it’s sound

These are helpful hints. If parents put in the time each night to go over what has been shown at school that day, then fast progress is made and you and your child are much happier.

We have an open door policy where parents are welcome to visit and become involved through parent help.
