Monthly meetings take place in the school staffroom commencing at 6 00p.m on the 2nd Monday of each month . These meetings are open to the public and parents. All welcome.

BOOKS IN HOMES

Our school is fortunate to be a part of this programme and as a result, every child in the school receives at least 4 books, free, to keep as their own personal property each year. We enjoy visits by high profile “Duffy Heroes” who promote the importance of books and reading. The Duffy Theatre visits our school on an annual basis and the Kids at Home initiative allows for our students to give their younger siblings a book on their birthday. Our sponsors are Den and Prue Olde from Auckland.

CLASS HOMEWORK

Junior and Teina students have home readers during the week which parents are asked to listen to and assist with, to help review the learning at school. Senior / Tuakana homework is given at the teachers discretion and will always be a continuation of what has been taught at school.

COMPUTERS: IT

The school is well equipped with computers / chrome books/ and iPads in each class. These are connected to a network. Interactive whiteboards , data projectors and smart TV’s are also effective learning tools accessed by all students.

HATS

We are a Sun smart school . All students must wear hats in Term 1 and 4. We are also a water only school for drinks. We promote good health and good choices.

LEARNING SUPPORT PROGRAMMES

Students who require extra support in their learning and/or behaviour will be identified through data and evidence collected mainly by the teacher and at times other learning agencies. This extra help is collaborative and progress is explored to better understand the students learning and behavioural needs. All classes have teacher aides or kaiawhina to help students achieve in their learning. The school also provides Ministry of Education funded services within our school - Social Workers in Schools and Counselling Support in Schools.

LIBRARY

We have an attractive, and well resourced library which is maintained by our Librarian. Classes visit the library at least once a week to select and change personally chosen books.

NEWSLETTER

A school newsletter is sent home on Thursdays (or Fridays) every second week and this is also published on our Facebook page or on Skool Loop.

OUTDOOR EDUCATION

Outdoor education camps are a vital part of our school curriculum. All students fundraise throughout the year towards reducing the cost of an end of year camp. The whole school is also involved with expeditions to local places, learning about our local history.

We are a Silver Award Enviroschool and provide a school vegetable garden and orchard.

PARENT CONCERNS

If you have any concerns about your child , please remember your first point of contact is the school and preferably their class teacher. It is important that we are contacted as soon as possible so that we can address problems quickly and constructively. With problems of a more serious nature, contact the Principal first.

PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE

We have the services of a health nurse who visits weekly and is available to help with any health related problems, every Monday.

RESTORATIVE PRACTICE / BEHAVIOUR PLAN

Paeroa Central School seeks to be positive in all aspects of a child’s well-being and development. We believe that praise, whenever we can, produces the best response in children. Each week we make an effort to give certificates of recognition to children who have applied themselves or have made significant personal progress. Tuatahi Star Cards are awarded to students for showing our school values in the classroom, around the school and when in the community.

Our school’s policy outlines the procedures and process in managing persistent or serious behaviour . In all cases parents/caregivers/whanau will be contacted at an early stage, to help resolve any concerns
