Ko Hauraki te Iwi
Our school acknowledges and recognises all Hauraki Iwi. When establishing the school’s Rūmaki Unit, the following iwi were identified as strongly represented within our school – Ngāti Maru, Ngāti Tamaterā, Ngāti Hako, Ngāti Tara Tokanui, Ngāti Paoa and the hapū Ngāti Tawhaki. Within our school charter, guided by the school’s vision we will show our commitment to the revitalisation of Haurakitanga |
Paeroa Central School is a dual medium primary school located in the rural town of Paeroa.
The school is 140 years old and currently operates 4 classrooms with a roll of approximately 80 students. We have two English Medium classes and two Māori Medium Level 1 Rūmaki classes. In the Rūmaki classes, Te Ara Hou o te Reo, 80-100% of learning is in Te Reo Māori. Auraki (English) Medium students also have lessons in Te Reo Māori working within Level 4 Te Reo Māori. All students have the opportunity to join Kapa Haka and work towards performing at the Hauraki Festival in Term 4.
Each class has a teacher aide or kaiawhina. Some support staff also run small group learning programmes. All children are supported with their learning. We have a school wide focus on literacy: te reo Matatini and numeracy: Pāngarau. We have a cultural curriculum linked to our unique area Hauraki. This includes hītori (history), pūrākau (traditional stories) and kawa me ngā tikanga (rules that are set).
We are an Enviro school and in Term 2 and 3, learning is student driven where practical activities are tied to learning about sustainability. Students may cook, work in the school vegetable gardens and orchard, make ointments using rongoā, design and paint murals, and/or work with local community. Our students strive to be excellent Kaitiaki (Guardians).
We strongly promote Sport and Education Outside the Classroom programmes.

Kia ora e te whanau,

They want to put out a practical resource for schools and make recommendations to the government. They want to hear your thoughts about what makes a difference. Please help by clicking on this survey link: https://survey-au.yoursurveynow.com/.../sel.../53b/250531...#?
